New short story and new "did not make it to finalist stage"

It is fun to write short stories for the WD Your Story competition but it would be even nicer if I could get picked as one of the five finalists so that people can vote.

I plan to start writing my series of planned short stories as soon as I have rewritten my novel and gotten past Script Frenzy.  I already know what I am doing for NaNoWriMo next November and if I only write novels in November, I have ideas already planned out for the next three Novembers.  The rest of the year will be reserved for short stories and rewrites and Script Frenzy.

Your Story submission for February

Yet another one of my short stories written for the Your Story competition has not made it to the finalist round.  Oh well.  I will keep on writing and keep on submitting because it is practice.  They give you the first line or the subject and you write a story that is 750 words or less.  Good practice.  Then I post the story on writers-network.

In the meantime, I am still rewriting the novel I wrote.  I will need to get that done since I want to participate in Script Frenzy in April and I want to qualify for the discounts and "winner's prizes" from NaNoWriMo.

Editing

I am still editing the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo last November.  it seems every time I move on to the next chapter, I find something that I need to fix in the prior chapter.  I guess that is how it goes.  Then when I think I have it all done, I read it out loud and find something else or I suddenly realize that I am using something before I have introduced it.  Argh!  I will survive!

Second blog

Listening to the State of the Union speech and thinking about what I've read, no one seems to really think about what has happened in this country.  We have the income inequality of Paraguay; we have less upward mobility than other countries.  Our recycling technology is twenty years behind the times.   We are number one in internet piracy but that isn't something of which to be proud.  Politicians keep touting that we should reduce our dependence on foreign oil yet won't fund renewable energy resources such as solar power.  If we had spent even half of the $36 billion per year oil company subsidies on solar, we would have solar power taking care of everything.  Right now,  there are people in Africa who are using solar panels on their huts for electricity.  I WANT THAT!  Change is going to have to come from "below;" individuals are going to have to change and then the politicians can try to keep up.  Too bad politicians have so much power and don't seem to pay attention to things around them.  For example: the Republican congressman who said that since God said that He would not cause a flood to destroy the Earth, that means that man doesn't have to worry about man destroying the Earth.  My thought:  just because God said He wouldn't do it, doesn't mean He would stop man from doing it.  We are just one of His creations on one of His planets in one of His galaxies in one of His universes in one of His dimensions.

First Day of Blogging

The noise from people working on the street has kept me from actually editing a novel I wrote.  I'm picky.  I like it quiet when I work.  So, I worked on the timeline for the novel to make sure that the travel time made sense from one destination to another.  Then, I worked on the query letter and a short story.

I enjoy writing short stories for the Your Story competition that Writer's Digest sponsors.  There's practice writing and practice developing a story around whatever prompt they have used.

My biggest problem is finishing a project.  I start thinking up all sorts of projects but have difficulty putting in the effort to finish.  Well, back to editing the novel.  It's night and it is finally quiet.
