December 13, 2011

Because I am working on the rewrite on First Time Outside, I will not be involved with Script Frenzy.  Much as I enjoyed writing a script last April, it would take too much time away from rewriting the novel.  CreateSpace has the prize of 5 paperback copies for free if you get your novel to them before June 30th.  If I stop to write a script, I may not be meeting that deadline.  CreateSpace wants a proofread copy first which can take up to a week.  Bu the proofread copy only costs about $10.  The paperback copies are normally $7 each.  With that price, I may get a copy of Quoth the Universe for myself.  I rather enjoy the thought of having a bookshelf full of my books.

First Time Outside

This last November for NaNoWriMo, I wrote another science fiction novel.  I have titled it "First Time Outside."  Now I am working on rewriting it.  Currently the speed at which it flows is like that of a speeding bullet.  I need to slow it down a great deal.  Wish me luck.  :)

Quoth the Universe, update

The novel, Quoth the Universe, has passed inspection and has been "shipped" to Barnes & Noble and Apple stores.  It should show up in their online catalogs in a week or two.  Then I will be able to see how many people don't buy my book.

I saw a movie on Syfy that had me thinking that I should send out the script that I wrote for Script Frenzy 2011. My script is just as good as that movie's was - as far as I was concerned.  Hmmm.  I will have to research this further.

Quoth The Universe

I have published Quoth the Universe on smashwords.com.  The submission to the premium catalog is pending approval.  Once it is approved, Quoth the Universe will be available on Barnes & Noble, etc.  This is so cool!

It's been awhile

I did not realize it had been several months since I last posted.  I have been busy rewriting Quoth the Universe - the novel I wrote in the 2010 NaNoWriMo contest.  I am completing the final read-through now and will soon publish it on smashwords.com.  I hope to see it on Barnes & Nobles site soon after that.  And I have already written a summary of the next novel that I will write in the 2011 NaNoWriMo contest.  Hopefully, this time I won't have to rewrite so extensively.

Food for thought

Nature will have the last laugh.  Man destroys the Earth; the Earth with its new characteristics will destroy Man.  God is probably already having the last laugh.  We were given free will and given stewardship of this planet.  Have we created Heaven or Hell?

Script Frenzy and Your Story

I finished the script for Script Frenzy.  I wrote my first script and I wrote 100 pages in one month.  I feel good about it.  Now it has to be edited.  However, it needs to get in line after the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo and some short stories I want to write.  And I wrote another story for the Your Story competition from Writers' Digest.  The prompt was the first line must be "You will not believe what came in the mail today."  I had fun writing it.  Let's see if it makes it to the finalist round.  I doubt it.  I have read what makes it to the finalist round and I have yet to be able to read one of those short stories from start to finish and they are less than 750 words.

Dragons have awakened

The dragons have awakened.  First the Earth Dragon.  When he awakened, the 9.0 earthquake occurred in Japan.  He lifted his head when he appeared.  He had been sleeping.  Then the Water Dragon burst up into the air from the bottom of a lake.  Shortly thereafter, the series of tornadoes and storms and deluges in the Midwest of the US occurred.  Now, the Fire Dragon is slowly lifting his head.   What is the fourth dragon?  I believe the fourth dragon is disease.  There is a plasmid called NDM-1.  And a plasmid can enter any species of bacteria to confer its abilities.  It has already entered several dozen species of bacteria.  Nature is updating her arsenal.  What happens now is anyone's guess.  I am watching for what happens now that the Fire Dragon has been awakened.

Man's inhumanity

Humans are definitely expressing their inhumanity to God's creatures when they pass laws that target specific breeds instead of being responsible and dealing with the actual culprit - humans.   The history of mankind is written in the blood of his victims.  And it is truly a bloody history.

New short story and new "did not make it to finalist stage"

It is fun to write short stories for the WD Your Story competition but it would be even nicer if I could get picked as one of the five finalists so that people can vote.

I plan to start writing my series of planned short stories as soon as I have rewritten my novel and gotten past Script Frenzy.  I already know what I am doing for NaNoWriMo next November and if I only write novels in November, I have ideas already planned out for the next three Novembers.  The rest of the year will be reserved for short stories and rewrites and Script Frenzy.

Your Story submission for February

Yet another one of my short stories written for the Your Story competition has not made it to the finalist round.  Oh well.  I will keep on writing and keep on submitting because it is practice.  They give you the first line or the subject and you write a story that is 750 words or less.  Good practice.  Then I post the story on writers-network.

In the meantime, I am still rewriting the novel I wrote.  I will need to get that done since I want to participate in Script Frenzy in April and I want to qualify for the discounts and "winner's prizes" from NaNoWriMo.

Editing

I am still editing the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo last November.  it seems every time I move on to the next chapter, I find something that I need to fix in the prior chapter.  I guess that is how it goes.  Then when I think I have it all done, I read it out loud and find something else or I suddenly realize that I am using something before I have introduced it.  Argh!  I will survive!

Second blog

Listening to the State of the Union speech and thinking about what I've read, no one seems to really think about what has happened in this country.  We have the income inequality of Paraguay; we have less upward mobility than other countries.  Our recycling technology is twenty years behind the times.   We are number one in internet piracy but that isn't something of which to be proud.  Politicians keep touting that we should reduce our dependence on foreign oil yet won't fund renewable energy resources such as solar power.  If we had spent even half of the $36 billion per year oil company subsidies on solar, we would have solar power taking care of everything.  Right now,  there are people in Africa who are using solar panels on their huts for electricity.  I WANT THAT!  Change is going to have to come from "below;" individuals are going to have to change and then the politicians can try to keep up.  Too bad politicians have so much power and don't seem to pay attention to things around them.  For example: the Republican congressman who said that since God said that He would not cause a flood to destroy the Earth, that means that man doesn't have to worry about man destroying the Earth.  My thought:  just because God said He wouldn't do it, doesn't mean He would stop man from doing it.  We are just one of His creations on one of His planets in one of His galaxies in one of His universes in one of His dimensions.

First Day of Blogging

The noise from people working on the street has kept me from actually editing a novel I wrote.  I'm picky.  I like it quiet when I work.  So, I worked on the timeline for the novel to make sure that the travel time made sense from one destination to another.  Then, I worked on the query letter and a short story.

I enjoy writing short stories for the Your Story competition that Writer's Digest sponsors.  There's practice writing and practice developing a story around whatever prompt they have used.

My biggest problem is finishing a project.  I start thinking up all sorts of projects but have difficulty putting in the effort to finish.  Well, back to editing the novel.  It's night and it is finally quiet.
